Every time I watch The Shining I notice this moment. Jack looks straight at the camera, and it is not like he just glances and then looks away, he stares at it. Now, at first I thought this was a goof. However, this mistake is so blatant. The Shining is riddled with goofs and bloopers. Things appear then disappear, doors to rooms - spatially - go nowhere, and a character breaks the fourth wall. This is Kubrick, right? After many re-watches, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is no mistake, and even if it was initially a faux-pas from Nicholson, Kubrick decided to keep it anyway. Why? Who knows. Either way, it’s pretty damn scary.
